Bowfinger says, “He’s not in any of the other scenes, so we just shoot those with our own actors on our own time. And, bingo… we’ve got a movie.”<\/p>\n
“That’s crazy,” says Dave.
\n“Yeah,” agrees Bowfinger, “But we’re desperate.”<\/p>\n
“Why don’t you wait till you get a star who wants to be in it?” asks Dave.<\/p>\n
“Dave,” replies Bowfinger, “I’m 49 years old. Admittedly, I could get away with 44, 41, maybe 38. But when you hit 50, they don’t hire you anymore. It’s like they can smell 50.”<\/p>\n
Bowfinger puts the metal box on the table.<\/p>\n
“What’s that?” asks Dave.<\/p>\n
Bowfinger opens the box, and it’s filled with dollar bills.<\/p>\n
“When I was ten years old,” says Bowfinger, “I knew I wanted to make movies, but I knew no one was
\ngoing to give me that. So I started putting away one dollar every week of my life. If I missed a week,
\nI made it up later, from age ten on. And now, you’re looking at enough to get us started. Two thousand, one hundred eighty-four dollars.”<\/p>\n
“But movies cost millions of dollars to make,” says Dave.<\/p>\n
